Classes for high school students
It’s an awkward topic, but have you ever thought to yourself, “I feel so lonely sometimes. How can I deepen my relationships? How do I make new friends?” Meaningful relationships can help boost self-esteem, improve family dynamics, and increase work success, but in adulthood, there are fewer and fewer built-in opportunities to socialize. Through discussion and roleplay, learn strategies that can be used in multiple contexts to initiate and maintain conversations, how small talk can lead to deeper connection, the hidden expectations and rules around conversation and friendship, and how to identify and see value in different types of friendships. Designed for adults ages 18–30.
Sarah Macek is a speech-language pathologist. She believes that social communication and being able to connect and have relationships is so necessary for a collective humanity. Navigating different personalities and conflict are pertinent to staying connected and she wants to talk about it. For enjoyment, Sarah walks with friends, goes skiing with her family and listens to audiobooks/podcasts.
Tandis Taj is a speech language pathologist. She has worked in schools and private practice in Massachusetts and Colorado. Her passion has always been in helping clients see the value in understanding the social world so they can navigate it successfully. She currently works with neurodivergent adults in the areas of friendship and dating support. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, doing yoga, and feeding her grouchy bulldog endless snacks.
