Chinese Kitchen: Taro Balls 芋圆

ACE Kids K-12 / Life Skills -
Spring 2024

Taro balls, yu yuan, area sweet Taiwanese treat. In the classic version, taro root and sweet potatoes are mixed with rice flour and divided into morsels which are boiled until every bite reaches the perfect level of chewiness. We’ll make these, as well as experiment with other root vegetables and common ingredients, to make a variety of sweet doughs. After cooking our yu yuan we will eat our sweet treats, served over ice cream.
