Classes for high school students
Write, storyboard, and direct your own short animated film. Learn skills in visual storytelling, plot a successful story, create likable characters, and learn the principles of animation. We will work with cut paper, clay, and found objects as we create mini movies using Stop Motion Studio.
Sarah Spengler earned her Master of Fine Art in Photography from the University of New Mexico and holds a BA in cultural anthropology from Bates College. She is fascinated by visual culture and the technologies used for capturing or viewing images. She has made bodies of work using antiquated optical devices from the 1800s and emerging technologies, including microfiche machines, stereoscopes, lenticular images, 3D models, augmented reality (AR), and artificial intelligence (AI). She has exhibited her work throughout the United States including RISD in Rhode Island; Galleri Urbane in Texas; the Albuquerque Art Museum and Currents International New Media Festival in New Mexico. Sarah has taught art for decades to students of all ages. From 2011 through 2018, she designed and led the digital art curriculum at New Mexico School for the Arts. Since returning to Boston, Sarah has taught Digital Imaging at Montserrat College of Art in Beverly and Climate Change and the Arts to graduate students at Emerson College. She is currently designing art curricula for students to explore climate change, question societal norms, and promote positive change. www.sarahspengler.com
