The Science of Baking

SummerFun! / Cooking & Other Life Skills -
SummerFun! 2024

Learn the basics of baking and the science behind making some of your favorite tasty treats. Baking combines the reactions of chemistry, the processes of biology, and the laws of physics. We’ll explore topics such as how yeast works, how to preserve food by canning, and making ingredient substitutions. Learn what gluten is and experiment with modifying a recipe to get different results. Some recipes we make will include mini pies, bread, jam, soft pretzels, and cupcakes.
