Adorn your cupcakes with realistic-looking succulent plants made out of buttercream. Learn to make a variety of cactus plants and desert roses to turn cupcakes into colorful edible terrariums. Icing and decorating tools are included, which you will use in class for decorating your cupcakes and take home to recreate your designs.  Please note: You will need to bring 10-12 unfrosted cupcakes and a carrier or box to transport them.

Your house tells a story. Its age and architectural style, its place in the community, and the lives of the people who have lived there all contribute to this history. Get an introduction to the methods and sources of researching your home’s history. We’ll look at property deeds and historical atlases, town directories, and annual reports. See how probate records and census listings reveal the families who lived in your house and in your neighborhood. Begin compiling research after the first class and share what you’ve uncovered in the second. Leave with ideas for next steps to finish your house’s story. Please note: Bring the address of a property you wish to investigate or choose one from the instructor’s list of examples.  Most of our resources will be Arlington-specific, but the research techniques are applicable broadly.

Tasty wild plants grow abundantly all around us. Join a plant expert for a walk through an urban wild and develop your foraging skills. You’ll learn to identify dozens of edible plants and how they can enhance your culinary and nutritional repertoire. We’ll also cover cooking options, seasonal availability, and guidelines for safe and environmentally responsible foraging. You’ll be amazed at the greens, nuts, roots, and mushrooms you can find now and over the next few months. Sampling in the field will be encouraged! Children ages 10+ are welcome to register if accompanied by a registered adult.
