Classes for high school students
Get a gentle introduction to Mandarin Chinese, whether you’re looking to explore a new language, connect with Mandarin-speaking friends and family, or simply keep your mind active. The focus will be on practical language skills that you can use in everyday conversations. We’ll cover basic vocabulary, essential phrases, and simple sentence structures, making learning both fun and accessible. No prior knowledge of Mandarin is required.
Tong Chen is a Lecturer of Chinese at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he has been teaching for over 27 years. Originally from China, Tong has previously taught at Indiana University Bloomington and Williams College. He also taught for 25 summers at the renowned Middlebury College Language Schools, primarily working with beginner-level Chinese learners. He has also served as the President of both AAICE and NECLTA, as well as on the Board of Directors for CLTA. Tong has also published several books, ranging from Chinese grammar books and textbooks, as well as articles focused on the teaching of Chinese as a foreign language.
