Classes for high school students
Explore five different textile art techniques with hands-on projects. We’ll start with embroidery and stitching as we turn beautiful fabric into a small hand-stitched pouch. Next, we’ll weave different yarns into a vibrant tapestry and deconstruct woven materials to create a cool wall hanging. Try wet felting to make felt-covered bars of soap and other awesome art pieces. Finally, let your imagination run wild as you wrap, wind, and bind a one-of-a-kind textile sculpture.
Marella Averill has nearly 25 years of experience teaching in a variety of school settings, from preschool to adults. As a special education teacher, she loves finding ways to help others use creativity to develop understanding of their learning. In addition to teaching, she has always loved using her hands to make things out of fabric and textiles: quilting, sewing, knitting/crochet, and most recently weaving. Most recently, she has become interested in how to use recycled and reclaimed textiles and materials to make fun, functional and beautiful textile art.
