Classes for high school students
Caregiving often begins with a crisis, leaving little time to plan and creating significant stress. This class is designed for adult children who are noticing aging-related physical, mental, or cognitive changes in a loved one and want to be proactive in preparing for caregiving. The first session will cover how to assess your loved one’s situation, when to step in, and how to initiate conversations about care. You’ll also learn how to create a caregiving plan collaboratively and explore available resources and services for older adults. In the second session, we’ll focus on the emotional challenges of caregiving, including stress, burnout, and coping strategies, as well as the support services available for caregivers.
Julie Norstrand, Ph.D., has worked with older adults and families in hospitals and community settings. Her clinical, academic and research expertise, spanning over 15 years, has given her an in-depth knowledge of the constraints on the family when the older adult starts to require assistance in order to stay safely in their own home.
