The North End: Boston’s Immigration Gateway

Adult Enrichment / Out & About -
Fall 2024

Discover the charm of the North End, a unique, compact city space that has welcomed immigrants for 400 years. Explore the compelling stories of Irish, Eastern European, and Italian immigrants who shaped this neighborhood, overcoming hardships to leave a lasting impact on their new home. This tour begins at the picturesque waterfront and weaves through Boston’s iconic crooked and narrow streets. It will end in the heart of the North End, the perfect spot to savor an authentic Italian treat after your journey through this vibrant community’s history and culture. Ages 10+

Please note: This class covers 1 mile and traverses some narrow sidewalks and uneven bricked terrain. If anyone has mobility issues, we can give the guide a heads up so they can be sure to accommodate as best as possible.

Jen Cusack

Jen Cusack is a proud native Bostonian who has lived in Needham for 25 years. While she spent her career in non-profit management and fundraising, she has always loved stories best: reading them, writing them, and sharing them. She is the daughter of a librarian and a history professor, so it's no wonder that she has towers of books all over her house and is a tour guide with Boston by Foot, leading walking tours to explore Boston's neighborhoods and their many amazing stories.
