From anchoring famed movie musicals to permanently altering the contemporary theatrical landscape, Stephen Sondheim made his mark on the musical theater world for almost 70 years. A different Sondheim production will take center stage each week as we highlight significant scenes, key music, and the history of each piece. We will delve into the artistic and technical elements of the creative process and analyze Sondheim’s unique style. The instructor, a professional actor, will regale the class with backstage anecdotes that provide a perspective on the performing arts.
Praised by the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel for being “delightfully ridiculous”, Baritone Andy Papas has been seen on operatic and theatrical stages from coast to coast. Most recently he sang Dr. Bartolo in The Barber of Seville with Opera Theater of Connecticut, a role he will reprise later this winter in the Pacific Northwest. Andy has taught Opera & Musical Theater courses to students across the continent (and across the pond), hosting special guests from both Broadway and The Metropolitan Opera. Some of his signature courses include The British Operas Are Coming, And The Tony Award Goes To..., and The United States of Opera. He maintains a private voice studio and teaches voice/piano throughout the Boston area and virtually. Andypapas.com
