Artificial intelligence is transforming the world. ChatGPT—the AI program everyone’s been talking about—is a type of artificial intelligence that mimics human language and lets you engage in conversational dialog. You can use it to plan a vacation itinerary, craft a resume, write an essay, generate advertising copy, and more. Dall-E and Midjourney are AI tools that generate images, letting you create artwork with just a few clicks. We will explore these tools, get an overview of how they work and what they are capable of, discuss the implications and risks for the future of work and human creativity, and understand recent legislation. The first session of this two-night class focuses on text-based tools, and the second looks at image-based ones.
David Koelle is a Director of Engineering at Charles River Analytics Inc. in Cambridge, MA, where he works with other scientists and engineers on research and development programs involving human-centered approaches to artificial intelligence, machine learning, and virtual reality for the Department of Defense, NASA, and other US Government organizations. He is a resident of Arlington.
