Bring a story to life in this class where you will write, illustrate, and bind a book. Using New England authors as inspiration for points of view, cultural perspectives, illustration styles, and overall look, we will embrace the art of writing and illustrating a book from start to finish. We’ll end the week with a book fair to showcase our creations.

Jeté your way through this week that’s all about dance. The primary focus will be on ballet, but we will also try modern, contemporary, and jazz, and do yoga stretches. We’ll also get inspired by famous dancers through listening to stories and doing crafts such as wire dancer sculptures and paper dolls with layered tutus. Learn short routines and collaborate with your classmates to choreograph your own.

Use Matisse’s paper cut outs, Frida Kahlo’s portraits, and the techniques of other famous artists as inspiration for your own artwork. We’ll talk about artists we love, study examples of their work, and then experiment with the drawing, painting, and collaging techniques that make their work so extraordinary.

Pass through a spider’s web, create the strongest bridge using only popsicle sticks, and decipher all kinds of puzzles. Experience human knots, straw balancing, cup stacking with string, and more. You and your classmates will face new challenges involving a combination of intellect, strength, and teamwork. Have a blast coming up with solutions to the challenges that lie ahead.
