LARP Adventure Program: Heroes Academy
Please note: This is a full day program 9:00 am - 3:30 pm Live Action Role Playing (LARPing) is the ultimate in immersive experiences. Participate in an interactive narrative as you create your own character, build your own gear, and learn how to play the game. Using a combination of theater, martial arts training, and hands-on costume/prop/stage design, you’ll develop critical thinking, creative problem solving, and community leadership skills. Learn how to use boffer weapons safely and effectively to win the battle of the day! The following are some of the topics we may cover during the week. However LARPers interests and experience levels will help determine how much time is spent on each topic. Character Creation: Make original heroes to play LARP, discover your own personal legend DIY Projects: Build your own LARP gear (shields, swords, costumes), learn to think creatively and make solutions. Martial Arts for Self Confidence and Self Control: How to play the game with respect for oneself and for others. How to Play LARP: Learn the game rules and how to use your character abilities. Understand gameplay and mechanics. Event Prep and Playing your Character: Time to celebrate all your hard work and apply the skills you have learned! Learn D&D: The Giants Table
Become a hero and embark on a Dungeons & Dragons adventure in the land of Ithreach, a fantasy setting where seasons change and the story continues to grow. This game emphasizes heroism, teamwork, empathy, and storytelling skills. Learn D&D: The Giants Table If you’re brand-new to Dungeons & Dragons or have the books but have never played, come learn the rules of D&D while embarking on an exciting introductory adventure. In The Giant’s Table, you’ll investigate a missing man and the mysterious Mother Fenlight as a town is attacked by evil fey creatures. You’ll use a pre-generated 1st-level character, and everything you need to play will be provided. -
Board Game Design & Play
Put on your designer’s hat and create a board game. You’ll pick the look, the illustrations, and the highlights and pitfalls of the play. Design the movement, reward, and resource management systems and then combine them so that they work together. We’ll take breaks for group trivia, riddles, logic puzzles, and indoor and outdoor games. -
Mind Benders
Crack codes, solve riddles, and think outside the box during this mind-bending week. Challenge your mind and test your wits with Mensa-recommended strategy, cooperative, and pattern recognition games. Teamwork and communication will be your keys to success as the week culminates with a field trip to a local escape room in Arlington. Will you be able to unlock the final mystery? -
Let’s Play Pokémon!
Calling all Pokéfans! Learn more about the wonderful world of Pokémon. We’ll cover both the trading card game and the video game series, and explore the culture surrounding this global gaming phenomenon that was created way back in 1996. There will be open casual play and supervised trading, as well as games and demo decks available for you to try. Bring any cards you have, but don’t worry if you forget—everyone will go home with an EX Battle Deck. “Gotta catch ‘em all!” -
Continue D&D: Ithreach Adventures

This game emphasizes heroism, teamwork, empathy, and storytelling skills. Continue D&D: Ithreach Adventures Each week, embark on a new adventure where personal heroics and group cooperation go hand in hand. Uncover strange plots, battle evil creatures, and bring justice and prosperity to the kingdom. Campaigns will be selected based on the group in attendance, ensuring new and exciting experiences for both novices with some D&D experience and seasoned players. Full-Day: Want to make it a full day? Simply sign up for both the morning and afternoon sessions and join Roll Models for a full day of D&D fun! In addition to playing in a D&D adventure, we are pleased to offer a full-day program for kids who want to explore other D&D activities that happen away from the game table. Every day, our full-day players will join one of the tabletop games, then spend the rest of the day trying something new: we’ll paint miniature figures, learn about Live Action Roleplay (LARP) combat with foam weapons, collaborate on world-building and storytelling, even create an entire custom D&D encounter from scratch, then play it! -
Welcome to Hogwarts
Visit the magical world of Harry Potter. In this spellbinding adventure, you’ll create your own wand, design a magical owl, craft a broom, make floating candles, and build castle walls. Get sorted into your house by the Sorting Hat, play Quidditch with friends, and enjoy many other magical activities. We’ll focus on The Sorcerer’s Stone and The Chamber of Secrets, uncovering the mysteries of Hogwarts through entertaining excerpts from the first two books in the series and watching key scenes from the movies. -
Candyland
Get ready for a sugar rush of creativity and discovery. We’ll make candy-inspired crafts, build a piñata, and use candy to complete colorful science experiments and edible art projects. Of course we’ll also play a few rounds of the classic board game and maybe even create some candy-centric games of our own. This week will be a treat for your imagination—and your sweet tooth! -
Chess Wizards
Considered one of the greatest games ever invented, chess teaches many important life concepts such as concentration, sportsmanship, how to win graciously, and how to accept defeat with dignity. Learn chess rules, positional tactics, and basic to more advanced moves with the guidance of an experienced chess master. We will divide into groups according to experience, and end the week with a mini-chess tournament. -
I Challenge You!
Pass through a spider’s web, create the strongest bridge using only popsicle sticks, and decipher all kinds of puzzles. Experience human knots, straw balancing, cup stacking with string, and more. You and your classmates will face new challenges involving a combination of intellect, strength, and teamwork. Have a blast coming up with solutions to the challenges that lie ahead. -
Magic: The Gathering
Cast spells, summon creatures, and use magical objects to defeat your opponents. Get an introduction or review of the basics of Magic: The Gathering, the world’s most popular trading card game. We will do a draft where everyone will pick cards and then use those decks to play each other. If you have your own cards, you can bring them, but we won’t be trading—the focus will be on gameplay. Beginners and experienced players are welcome. Magic is easy to learn, difficult to master! -
Advanced D&D: A Mile in My Shoes
Veteran Roll Models players who participated during the 2024-2025 school year are invited to join this special summer adventure, A Mile In My Shoes. The heroes reunite with Aubin, the one-legged swordsman they met in Caravan of Secrets, for the grand reopening of the Brindale Museum. But the celebration takes a dark turn when Aubin suddenly disappears, and a mysterious villain emerges. This adventure is for existing characters at 4th–6th level. Games Galore
Our mornings will be filled with laughter, teamwork, and creative challenges as we play a mix of drawing, acting, and word games like Pictionary, Apples to Apples, Mad Libs, and Charades. We’ll test our wits with tricky riddles, piece together jigsaw puzzles, and engage in friendly competition as we challenge our brains in new ways. We’ll also create our own puzzles and invent awesome original games that everyone will love to play. -
Spy School
Intrigued by the secret world of spies and special agents? Explore cryptology, the art and science of making and breaking codes. Use math, history, science, and art to learn many different ways to communicate secretly. You’ll learn the history behind different secret codes, encrypt and decipher messages, create your own cipher disk, and so much more. -
The Game Room
Strategy, creativity, and friendly competition collide! We’ll start each session with quick, fun brain-break activities to build community and sharpen problem-solving skills. Then we’ll play multiplayer board games that test your tactics, teamwork, and quick thinking. Play familiar classics like Scrabble and Monopoly or discover new favorites like Happy Salmon and Splendor. Whether you’re a seasoned player or new to the table, join us to think, strategize, and play your way to victory.
