  • Babysitting Basics

    This program is designed to better prepare you to become a capable, caring, and responsible babysitter. Understand the responsibilities and skills—including basic first aid and what to do in an emergency—and develop confidence in handling situations you may encounter when caring for young children. Upon completion, your services will be in high demand in the neighborhood!
  • Bike Safety

    Join Officer Bryan White and other members of the Arlington Police Department for a fun and informative course on bike (or scooter) safety. Learn proper hand signals, how to travel on bike lanes and the bike path, and general tips on how to ride safely to school and around town. Please note: While this program is free, pre-registration is required for each child attending as space is limited. All participants must bring their bike (or scooter) and a bike helmet! Please consider making a donation to our scholarship fund.
  • Chinese Kitchen: Scallion Pancakes 蔥油餅

    Any dim sum meal or order of Chinese takeout will never feel complete without scallion pancakes (cong you bing). Crispy and flaky on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside, this appetizer is the ideal starter to any Asian feast. We will mix and knead the dough before incorporating a chopped green onion filling, then we’ll pan fry in oil our delicious layered pancakes.
  • Chinese Kitchen: Taro Balls 芋圆

    Taro balls, yu yuan, area sweet Taiwanese treat. In the classic version, taro root and sweet potatoes are mixed with rice flour and divided into morsels which are boiled until every bite reaches the perfect level of chewiness. We’ll make these, as well as experiment with other root vegetables and common ingredients, to make a variety of sweet doughs. After cooking our yu yuan we will eat our sweet treats, served over ice cream.
  • Home Alone Safety

    Please note: The May 5 class is online and is for students with or without family members. Registration is per family/screen. Knowing when a child is ready to stay home alone is a challenging decision, but preparation can make this milestone much easier for your family. Home Alone Safety is a readiness program that builds self-confidence, a sense of responsibility, and stronger decision-making abilities through a variety of fun, interactive activities, discussions, and situational role-playing. It is a stepping stone for younger grades as they explore and become comfortable with the idea of being home, and for older grades to better understand and gain confidence with being home alone. Topics include: ● Confidence & Readiness Strategies ● Trust, Communication, & Good Decision Making ● Creating a Safe and Positive Environment ● Checking-In with Parents ● Walking Home & Arriving Home Safely ● Securing Your Home ● Someone is at the Door ● Handling Real-Life Situations and Emergencies ● Safe Snacks & Activities ● Taking Care of Siblings & Pets ● Creating an Emergency Contact List ● Creating Action Plans Guidebooks and parent handouts will be provided via PDF attachment prior to the course. Materials will be included for parents and guardians to create safe environments and family emergency action plans. "Frank was an excellent instructor.     Let’s get cooking, tasting, and thinking about healthy ingredients. Working as a team, we’ll slice, dice, peel, measure, and cook to prepare a special dish. We will celebrate seasonal produce and offer ideas for quick and healthy family meals. Take home the key ingredient or a sample of the finished dish, and the recipe to show off what you’ve learned. Recipes may include horseradish herb cucumber tea sandwiches, lemon asparagus risotto, delicious veggie patties, caramelized apple grilled cheese, and other vegetarian and non-vegetarian delights. Food allergies are taken into consideration, making sure that everyone is having fun and staying safe.
  • Mandarin with Mister Monis

    Connect with the world by studying Mandarin, the official language of China. Learn the vocabulary to have basic conversations including greetings, numbers & colors, school & home life, dining, shopping, and more. Also learn how to read and write basic 汉字 (hanzi)-written characters that represent words or phrases. Explore Chinese historical events, traditional cultural practices, and holidays.
  • Spanish Club

    Spanish Club introduces you to a language that is spoken widely around the world. In the primavera (spring) students will learn how to talk about their hobbies and homes. Each week we will practice language skills through dialogue, drama, crafts, and song. This is an excellent introduction for beginners and an opportunity for returning students to expand their proficiency.
