    FunDrumz is a full body and brain workout designed to give you a physical, mental, and social experience through basic drumming and movement. We will use exercise balls, buckets, and drum sticks to rock out and jam to our favorite tunes with movement routines that combine cardio, rhythm drumming, and lots of fun.
  • Gibbs Running Club

    ACE running clubs are non-competitive programs that introduce the joy of running, build physical and mental endurance, and inspire active lifestyles. All teams will work toward the optional 5K road race that we will run as a team on Sunday, May 19 (further details upon registration). No experience necessary. Team t-shirt included. Please note: This is an outdoor class so please dress for the weather and bring a water bottle. The Arlington Education Foundation 5K requires a separate registration and is independent of ACE.   • Heroes Academy®: An Introduction to LARP Games

    This Live Action Role Play (LARP) games class is an introduction to LARPing and is perfect for beginners and casual players. Each week you will be led through tournaments and mock combat challenges using padded foam props. These games encourage critical thinking skills in addition to being a fun way to exercise. Prior experience is not required, nor are costumes or characters, so it’s easy to jump right in and give LARPing a try. LARP Adventure Program’s Heroes Academy® is a combination of theater, martial arts, and costume/prop/stage design. We combine these arts with critical thinking, creative problem solving, and community leadership skills.   • Heroes Academy®: Dungeons & Dragons

    Become an adventurer in a fantasy world filled with magical beasts! Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) is an interactive storytelling game where you create a character and test its might in an original tale. Practice a variety of skills including improvisation, critical thinking, math, and public speaking. We will use physical tools like books, battle maps, and figures as well as digital ones such as an online library of D&D books and a character creation app to keep the story flowing smoothly. We discourage students from creating characters before the first day of class. Instructors and students will collaborate to determine what kind of story that they will create. In the past, students who arrived with a character in hand have been disappointed if their character doesn't fit the group decision.
  • Heroes Academy®: LARP Discovery

    Live Action Role Play (LARP) allows you to participate in an interactive narrative, similar to the “choose your own adventure” books. In this class, which is more than just games, you will learn about each aspect of LARPing: game rules, mock combat techniques, and character development. As you gamefully combine theater, martial arts, and costume/prop/stage design, you will practice critical thinking, problem solving, and community leadership skills.   • Hiking Club

    Get outdoors and enjoy the natural world. Hike local wilderness areas such as the Middlesex Fells Reservation, Walden Pond, and the Western Greenway, led by an experienced guide. Engage your curiosity, seek out adventure, build camaraderie, and increase your stamina on hikes of varying distances and challenges. Gain confidence as you learn how to read trail maps, use a compass, and employ other navigation techniques, as well as read the forest for clues about the non-human life around us. Our club will culminate in an optional full-day hike in the White Mountain National Forest. Transportation from Gibbs/OMS and all necessary equipment will be provided for both the club and the hike. Pickup & Dropoff: Gibbs students should look for the van at 3:00pm. It takes 15 minutes - 20 minutes to get from Gibbs to Ottoson. Ottoson students pickup time will be between 3:15 - 3:20pm. Sturdy walking shoes, a raincoat, and a good backpack are suggested. If supplies are needed for the afterschool hikes, we have them. For the White Mountain Hike, all supplies will be included including snacks, backpacks, hiking poles, and water bottles. We hope all Hiking Club members will come along on the June 2 Full-Day hike. Note: The full-day hike is for Hiking Club students.
  • Hip Hop Dance Jam

    Join this weekly dance jam as we get into the groove! We’ll learn hip hop steps, play dance games, and work on confidence, creativity, and musicality. We’ll also freestyle to music of your choice. Using your new skills, we will work together to create a class routine.
  • Hollywood Filmmaking

    Make a movie! Your production team will brainstorm story ideas and write a script featuring witty dialog and convincing characters, with a role for everyone. Then you’ll take turns directing, acting, and filming with iPads. You'll edit your footage into a final movie that includes panning, transition shots, special effects, green screen backgrounds, and credits. We’ll screen our movies together and you can also watch yours again at home.
  • Home Alone Safety

    Please note: The May 5 class is online and is for students with or without family members. Registration is per family/screen. Knowing when a child is ready to stay home alone is a challenging decision, but preparation can make this milestone much easier for your family. Home Alone Safety is a readiness program that builds self-confidence, a sense of responsibility, and stronger decision-making abilities through a variety of fun, interactive activities, discussions, and situational role-playing. It is a stepping stone for younger grades as they explore and become comfortable with the idea of being home, and for older grades to better understand and gain confidence with being home alone. Topics include: ● Confidence & Readiness Strategies ● Trust, Communication, & Good Decision Making ● Creating a Safe and Positive Environment ● Checking-In with Parents ● Walking Home & Arriving Home Safely ● Securing Your Home ● Someone is at the Door ● Handling Real-Life Situations and Emergencies ● Safe Snacks & Activities ● Taking Care of Siblings & Pets ● Creating an Emergency Contact List ● Creating Action Plans Guidebooks and parent handouts will be provided via PDF attachment prior to the course.   • In-Control Crash Prevention Training (Information Only)

    Register at In-Control Crash Prevention In-Control Crash Prevention is a non-profit training program committed to helping reduce automobile crashes through hands-on training. Motor vehicle crashes are the number one killer of teens nationwide and the main causes are speed and inexperience. Students and their families can learn safety skills that can only be taught at In-Control’s unique closed course environment. Learn how to handle skidding, panic stops, tailgating, and emergency lane changes. This 4.5 hour course has been highly recommended to us by CS Driving School as a way to better learn how to handle unexpected driving situations.     Aspiring circus artists, learn amazing tricks that will wow your friends and family. We’ll practice precision and poise as we also have some high energy fun. Fun games will include balancing, bending, spinning, rolling, and catching skills. Younger students will spend time mastering agility basics, and older students will try tricks and acts that require a bit more focus.
  • Kids in the Kitchen

    Let’s get cooking, tasting, and thinking about healthy ingredients. Working as a team, we’ll slice, dice, peel, measure, and cook to prepare a special dish. We will celebrate seasonal produce and offer ideas for quick and healthy family meals. Take home the key ingredient or a sample of the finished dish, and the recipe to show off what you’ve learned. Recipes may include horseradish herb cucumber tea sandwiches, lemon asparagus risotto, delicious veggie patties, caramelized apple grilled cheese, and other vegetarian and non-vegetarian delights. Food allergies are taken into consideration, making sure that everyone is having fun and staying safe.

    Your creativity and a little tinkering will bring animals and their adventures to life. Build leaping dolphins, buzzing beehives, and towering giraffes. We’ll invent animated stories and use our LEGO resources to build fantastic worlds for our new friends.
  • Land of Ithreach: Dungeons & Dragons

    Go on an adventure set in the land of Ithreach, a fantasy setting where the seasons change and the story grows. If you’ve previously played D&D with Roll Models, you may continue to play using your character at their current level. Thicker Than Water: Dispatched on a seemingly simple errand to a wood elf city, our heroes soon find themselves in the middle of a mystery: some of the elven citizens have fallen asleep and cannot wake, including the only child of the ruling family.Returning players can create a new 3rd level character (using only the Basic Rules and The Player’s Handbook). Conspiracy of Shadows: The young sibyl Elia has had a disturbing vision: a darkness falls across all of Seerport, bringing dark times and corruption. Also learn how to read and write basic 汉字 (hanzi)-written characters that represent words or phrases. Explore Chinese historical events, traditional cultural practices, and holidays.
  • Metalsmithing: Silver Jewelry Design

    In this all-levels jewelry making workshop, beginning makers will fabricate a sterling silver ring, a sterling silver pendant with a bezel-set stone, and a set of bangle bracelets. Learn the basic fundamentals of metalsmithing, while incorporating personal design touches. Students already enrolled in a metalsmithing / jewelry class at AHS, or who have some experience can further develop their skills while learning to use sterling silver. Learn to fabricate a tube bezel for a faceted stone to create a “Y” shank ring, and also a pair of earrings, create a chain link bracelet in sterling silver. Multiple soldering and finishing techniques will be covered, and individual design is encouraged. Materials are included.

From recording and manipulating sounds, to mixing your very own tracks, to learning the key elements of songwriting and music theory, this hands-on course will encourage you to view the world around you as an endless source of musical inspiration.

    Please note: Students who are enrolled in Stratton's after school program (APTG), should enroll in Session 2 Known for its fun games and teamwork-oriented environment, Nathan’s Ninjas is a mix of traditional Kempo Karate with elements of sport karate, tumbling, and grappling. This course will give you a true self-defense perspective, all while having fun and building confidence.
  • Ninja Warrior

    Jump, hang, climb, and balance as you train to be a ninja warrior. We’ll play games, complete drills, and tackle an obstacle course inspired by the hit TV show. Each class we’ll add additional pieces of equipment to build upon the previous week’s accomplishments and learn new skills. Scale up cargo nets on a truss, walk across balance beams, climb over an A-frame, and hang on monkey bars as you build strength, endurance, and coordination.
  • Oil Pastels

    Add texture and vibrant color to your artwork using oil pastels. We will focus on the basics of drawing through exercises of line, shape, form, and value. Learn how to draw and color 3D objects including fruits and vegetables, landscapes, and abstract compositions. We will discuss basic color theory and how to apply it to your drawings. Explore oil pastel techniques such as layering, mixing, blending, and scumbling.
