Build Your Family Tree with DNA Testing
Adult Enrichment / Curious Minds -
Getting Started Learn about the many reasons to take a DNA test and the available options at this introductory class. DNA tests not only help to build and validate your family tree, but they can also provide health information, help you search for birth parents, or simply tell you if you are more German or Irish. Get an overview of what tests are out there, how much they cost, and which services DNA companies offer, to help you decide which test to take. We’ll also address any privacy concerns you may have, including how to register a test anonymously.
Tuesday, Feb. 2 | 7:00–9:00 pm | $29
Connecting with Matches Whether you’re still waiting for results after taking a test you received for the holidays or you’ve been holding onto results that have been confusing, this class will help you learn how to look at and contact your matches so you can start building your family tree. Discover the incredible amount of information embedded in DNA matches and how to read the information about shared DNA segments to determine how likely it is that you are related to someone. We’ll look at using messaging tools on ancestry.com and 23andMe.com to reach out to matches, and talk through starter messages that will most likely receive a reply.
