Get a general overview of the college athletic recruitment process for qualified student-athletes. Although each sport has its own nuances, there are some recruitment standards that apply across the spectrum of collegiate sports. From honest self-assessment and discerning the appropriate level of competition, to the preferred timeline for outreach and ultimately making a commitment to a college coach and program, we will guide interested families through the ins and outs, as well as the dos and don’ts, of this significant element of the college admission landscape. We’ll dispense knowledge and dispel myths at this insightful, informative program, including ample time for Q&A.

Mindy Popp

Mindy Popp, the managing director and principal consultant of Popp & Associates, LLC, has worked in various positions with college and secondary school students, including college counseling, college admissions and financial aid, residential life, teaching and advising for 20+ years. Ms. Popp is a member of professional organizations including the New England Association for College Admission Counseling (NEACAC), the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) and the Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA). Ms. Popp is a graduate of Tufts University and the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Tom Walsh

Tom Walsh (Athletic Counselor, Popp & Associates) has been an independent school teacher and administrator for nearly 40 years. He has devoted over two decades of that time to work in college guidance with a special interest and expertise in athletic recruitment. He has also been the athletic counselor for Popp & Associates for several years, helping a number of students and their families navigate the recruitment process. Tom is a resident of Westwood where he lives with his wife, Susan. Their two children have completed their undergraduate studies; one was a Division 1 soccer recruit so Tom knows this process as both a professional and a parent.
