One Poem—Many Stories

Adult Enrichment / Writing & Literature -
Fall 2022

I am scorched to realize how many small, available things are in the world that aren't pieces of gold or power—that nobody owns or could buy even for a hillside of money—that just float about the world, or drift over the fields, or into the gardens. –from "Summer Story" by Mary Oliver

In her powerful poem, Pulitzer Prize winning poet Mary Oliver shows how close attention to a cherished moment and her ongoing life story intersect. Together we will examine this and three other accessible poems, and discover the rich reflection, stories, and conversation each evokes. With simple prompts we will gather vivid details from our lives; what emerges may include nuances of experience to a special memory. No knowledge of poetry is necessary.
