Kumihimo Jewelry: Beaded Bracelet

Adult Enrichment / Fine Arts & Crafts -
Fall 2021

Make a beautiful bracelet using the ancient art of Japanese braiding. Kumihimo means “gathered threads.” Originally used to braid lacing for a Samurais’ armor, today it is a popular jewelry-making technique that is easy, fun, fast, and addictive. We will explore the history of this art, and learn about terms, tips, and resources. Then we will start working on mastering the basic round braid. Each participant will create a half hook bracelet, for yourself or to give as a gift. Leave with new skills to continue this satisfying craft on your own.

Tuition includes a $25 fee for a kit. Color choices (silver black, copper brown, silver lavender, silver turquoise) can be made at time of registration. Reusable braiding disks ($4) will be available for purchase.

Please note: Participants must bring a small bottle of white glue, a small tube of very strong glue such as Gorilla glue or E600, scissors, and a ruler.
